Althorpe Care Home

Althorpe Nursing Home is a Grade II listed building that, from the outside, has retained its original look and on the inside has maintained many of the original features such as the fireplaces, stained-glass windows, etc.
Within the main building we have made internal changes to provide 12 en-suite individual rooms, all with unique features and with no two rooms alike. Each room is decorated and personalised, highlighting many of the Georgian features, yet is made safe and comfortable for the needs of nursing residents. All rooms are large with big windows that have secondary glazing to ensure they remain warm.
The combination of the modern adaptations and original features has created a boutique Home that is warm, cosy and homely as well as safe for the specialised care of elderly residents.
There are a further 9 rooms in a newer extension to the building. In total, Althorpe Nursing Home has 20 single rooms.
The village of Althorpe is located in the Isle of Axholme, just on the outskirts of Scunthorpe. It is connected well by bus routes and is close to local amenities.
We aim to:
- Provide a Homely environment – to ensure the residents are comfortable and at the same time safe
- Preserve Dignity – where all our staff (from caring to ancillary) are trained to respect and preserve the dignity of each individual within the Home and to respect their privacy
- Participation and Independence – residents are encouraged to participate in the development of their care plan so that their wishes and aspirations are incorporated in their daily lives. Our focus will always be to maintain and encourage as much independence as possible for the individual
We believe that what makes our residents feel more alive and better about themselves is being valued, being respected, being spoken to, being given understanding during difficult times, being shown kindness and interest and being given a little ‘fuss’ and attention.
We understand that choosing the right care home is a big decision and one that should be made with assistance from relatives and loved-ones. Wherever possible, we encourage prospective residents and family members to visit beforehand to ensure they feel comfortable in our Home.
At Althorpe Nursing Home, we are committed to providing the highest standard of care. The care we administer is always done so with respect, compassion and understanding.
Our Philosophy of Care is underpinned by 5 principles:
- Promoting optimum health and well-being with personalised support plans to provide the best care and treatment possible.
- Providing services of the highest comfort and safety, working with key professionals to promote fair access and value for money.
- Creating opportunities for residents to express their individuality, views and wishes through direct contact or advocacy.
- Valuing input from families and friends; working to preserve strong ties with treasured people, places and memories.
- Facilitating independence through inclusion and offering choice in all aspects of a person’s life.
To ensure that our high standard of care is maintained, an independent quality assurance system is in place.
Residential Care
We recognise that as people get older, circumstances can change and it becomes more difficult to live a fulfilled and happy life in your own home. The responsibility of day-to-day living can become a worry for the individual or their family.
Althorpe Nursing Home has dedicated rooms to provide residents who do not have nursing requirements with a comfortable and relaxed home environment without the burden of home maintenance, bills, laundry, cooking, cleaning, etc. The Home’s care team will be there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to encourage independent spirit of residents and ensure all needs are met and each day is worry-free.
Nursing Care
Those residents who require Nursing Care Services also benefit from the same in-home facilities that are for our Residential residents. They will also have a dedicated team of round-the-clock Registered General Nurses who report to the Head of Care.
To ensure consistency of care, our nursing team will liaise regularly with the resident’s GP and other healthcare professionals.
We will maintain the very best nursing equipment to ensure the comfort and safety of our residents. We have the latest profiling beds, moving and handling equipment and hydrotherapy baths.
Palliative Care
Palliative care provides a resident with advanced and progressive illness the special support to ensure the best quality of life as they deal with the terminal disease. This is done alongside medical care and treatment.
Through care and support, we will strive to relieve some of the worry associated with long-term illness and help those individuals live each day active and happy.
The care staff working within this unit will have completed specialist end-of-life training. Our nursing staff are also qualified in providing the care and support to both the residents and their families.
Respite Care
At Althorpe Nursing Home, we provide the very same high-quality care services that are enjoyed by our long-term residents to individuals who come to us on a short-term basis.
Respite care is suitable for:
- Those individuals who would like to take a short break with us, safe in the knowledge that all their needs can be accommodated
- On discharge from hospital, many people may require additional care to start the recovery process. We can accommodate most of the clinical care requirements
- Sometimes full-time carers need a short break. We can provide high quality care service so that the relative can relax and have some time out
- Some individuals may wish to come to us on a short term as a ‘trial’ basis to ensure that the resident will be comfortable should they require longer-term care
Day Care
Our day care provides a friendly and stimulating day-away-from-home. Our day care gives people the opportunity to socialise with friends and take part in a range of activities while their family carers have a break and giving them the peace of mind of knowing their loved ones are in a safe environment.
We will provide freshly cooked meals and snacks throughout the day. We also offer a bathing service and can arrange hairdressing and chiropody.
Using the experience of our staff, residents, relatives and healthcare professionals, we aim to provide the highest quality of care services within Althorpe Nursing Home. We will aim to enable our residents to maintain as much independence as they can for as long as they can by balancing risk with quality of day-to-day living to maintain lifestyle choices.
"Top notch care home - my Mum has benefited greatly since coming to live here. It is reassuring to know that when I am away, she is safe and receives appropriate care. I enjoy my visits here - seeing my Mum involved in different activities and seeing her laugh. This is wonderful after her times of illness when I know that staff have had to work hard, often under extreme circumstances. A big thank you to everyone - words just aren't enough to express my gratitude."
- Relative
"Very impressed with this home. My Aunt has gone from strength to strength since she came here. She is happy here and says she likes the fact that they are easy going and she can have visitors at any time. She is vegitarian and this is always catered for. She has a very nice room. The staff are always on hand if needed, but let my Aunt be as independent as possible. I have no worries about her care which means a lot"
